How Old Was Messi When He Joined Barcelona

So, you're curious about when the little Lionel Messi first joined the big leagues of Barcelona, huh? Let's dive in!

From Rosario to Catalunya

Picture this: it's 2000, and a young Messi, just 13 years old, is playing for his local club, Newell's Old Boys, in Argentina. Now, you might be thinking, "13? That's just a kid!" But hold onto your hats, folks, because this is where the story gets interesting.

Barcelona's legendary scout, Carlos Rexach, was in the stands watching Messi play. Now, Rexach wasn't just any scout; he was a former Barcelona player who had a knack for spotting talent. And boy, did he spot something special that day!

Little Leo's Big Move

Rexach was so impressed with Messi's skills that he tore up a contract he had in his pocket and wrote a new one on the back of a napkin. I mean, how's that for a signing story?!

So, how old was Messi when he joined Barcelona? Well, he was just 13 years and 11 months old when he signed that napkin contract. And guess what? Barcelona agreed to pay for his medical treatment and let him bring his family over from Argentina. Talk about a sweet deal!

Growing Up at the Camp Nou

Messi moved to Barcelona in 2001, leaving behind his family, friends, and everything he knew. Imagine that! But the youngster was determined to make it big, and he did just that.

From La Masia to the Big Leagues

Messi made his first-team debut for Barcelona in 2004, at the age of 17. He came on as a substitute in a friendly match against Porto, and he didn't disappoint. He scored a goal and set up another, proving that he was destined for greatness.

And the rest, as they say, is history. Messi went on to become one of the greatest footballers of all time, breaking records left and right, and winning countless trophies with Barcelona. Not bad for a kid who joined the club when he was just a teenager!
