How Old Donald Sutherland

Hey there, ever wondered what's the deal with Donald Sutherland? No, not that Donald Sutherland, the one who's been around since, well, forever. The one who's been in more movies than you've had hot dinners. The one who's, dare I say it, a national treasure. So, let's dive in, shall we?

Born in the Land of Maple Syrup and Apologies

Our story begins in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. That's right, folks, he's Canadian. You know, the country that invented basketball, peanut butter, and being really, really sorry. Born in 1935, young Donald was the son of Frederick McLea Sutherland, a coal and fuel salesman, and Dorothy Isobel (née McConnell) Sutherland, a teacher.

Now, you might be thinking, "How did a kid from Canada end up in Hollywood?" Well, my friend, it's all about the genes. See, Donald's older brother, Ian, was already making waves in the acting world. So, it was only a matter of time before the younger Sutherland followed suit.

From Hockey to Hollywood

Young Donald was a bit of a jock back in the day. He played hockey, for crying out loud! But then, something magical happened. He discovered acting. And just like that, he traded in his hockey stick for a script.

He started off small, you know, just a few bit parts here and there. But then, bam! He landed a role in Kelly's Heroes in 1970. And just like that, Hollywood took notice. I mean, who could resist that charming Canadian accent and that face? That face that's launched a thousand... well, you know.

An Icon is Born

From there, it was a slippery slope into stardom. He was in MAS*H, Don't Look Now, JFK, Pride & Prejudice, and even Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I mean, the man's been in so many movies, it's like he's been in every movie. Ever.

And let's not forget his family. He's married to the lovely Frances Fisher and has kids who are just as talented as he is. His son, Rooney, is a big deal in Hollywood, and his daughter, Rachel, is a talented musician. It's like the Sutherlands are taking over the world, one movie, one song at a time.

Still Going Strong

And here's the kicker, folks. At 86 years young, Donald Sutherland is still going strong. He's still acting, still making movies, still charming the pants off everyone he meets. I mean, the man's a machine! A Canadian machine, but a machine nonetheless.

So, the next time you're watching a movie and you see that familiar face, that charming smile, that's Donald Sutherland. And remember, folks, he's been around so long, he's practically a movie in and of himself. So, let's raise a glass to Donald Sutherland, the original Canadian heartthrob, the man who's been in more movies than you've had hot dinners. Cheers!

And there you have it, folks. The story of how old Donald Sutherland isn't so old after all. He's just... experienced. And that's what makes him a national treasure. So, here's to you, Donald. Keep on truckin', eh?
