How Old Was Zendaya In The Greatest Showman

So, I was watching The Greatest Showman the other day, you know, just for the millionth time because, let's face it, that soundtrack is stuck in our heads forever. And I found myself wondering, as I often do during that opening number, "How old was Zendaya when they filmed this?" I mean, she's just a kid in the movie, right? But how old was she really?

Now, I know what you're thinking, "Why does it matter, Curious George?" Well, because I'm nosy, that's why! But also, because age matters in Hollywood. It affects the roles we see actors play, the stories they tell, and even the music they sing. So, let's dive into the time machine and find out.

Zendaya: The Enigma

Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, or just Zendaya to us mere mortals, was born on September 1, 1996. That makes her a Virgo, in case you're into that sort of thing. Now, The Greatest Showman was released in 2017, so let's do some math.

In 2017, Zendaya was... drumroll please... 21 years old! Yes, you read that right. She was 21 when she played the 14-year-old trapeze artist, Anne Wheeler. Mind. Blown.

But wait, you might be thinking, "That's not so bad. Lots of actors play younger than they are." And you're right! But here's where it gets interesting. Zendaya was actually younger than her love interest in the movie, Zac Efron. He was 30 when they filmed it. So, Zendaya was playing a teenager who was in love with a guy who was basically a decade older than her in real life. Talk about a plot twist!

Age is Just a Number

Now, I'm not saying Zendaya shouldn't have played Anne. She was amazing in the role, and her chemistry with Zac Efron was undeniable. But it's interesting to think about how age affects our perception of characters and stories. Would we have felt the same way about Anne and Phillip if Zendaya had been playing a woman closer to her own age?

And let's not forget, Zendaya was already a seasoned actress by the time The Greatest Showman came out. She started her career on the Disney Channel at the age of 13, so she was no stranger to playing younger than her age. But still, 21 is a far cry from 14!

So, there you have it. Zendaya was 21 when she played Anne Wheeler in The Greatest Showman. And now you know, and knowing is half the battle. The other half is probably singing "This Is Me" at the top of your lungs while doing your best trapeze artist impression. Don't lie, you know you do it.
