So, When Did James Hetfield Start Metallica? Let's Chat!
Alright, grab your coffee, let's dive into this. You're probably wondering, "How old was James Hetfield when he started Metallica?" Well, buckle up, 'cause we're going on a little journey through time.
First things first, picture this: it's 1981, the world's just starting to get a taste of MTV, and the Bay Area in California is brewing something big. James Hetfield, our man, is just a fresh-faced 18-year-old, still in high school. Can you believe it? The guy who'd become the face of thrash metal was once just a kid in a classroom!
Now, you might be thinking, "18? That's a bit young to start a legendary band, isn't it?" Well, yeah, but remember, Hetfield wasn't your average teenager. This guy was already jamming with his friend Dave Mustaine (who later went on to form Megadeth, but that's a story for another time).

So, there's Hetfield, 18, playing in a band called Leather Charm. Meanwhile, over in Denmark, a 17-year-old kid named Lars Ulrich is getting into the whole metal scene. He moves to LA, and guess who he calls up? Hetfield, of course!

Ulrich's like, "Hey, James, I've got this idea for a band. Wanna join?" And Hetfield's all, "Sure, why not?" And just like that, Metallica was born. Well, almost. They still needed a few more members, but that's another story.
So, when did they actually start playing together? Well, the first official Metallica lineup got together in late 1981. Hetfield was 18, Ulrich was 17. Can you even imagine? Two teenagers starting one of the biggest bands in history!

And the Rest is History
Fast forward to now, and Hetfield's a 58-year-old rock legend. He's been in Metallica for over four decades, and they've sold over 125 million records worldwide. Not bad for a couple of teenagers who just wanted to jam, huh?
So, there you have it. James Hetfield was 18 when he started Metallica. Crazy, right? It just goes to show, you're never too young (or too old) to follow your dreams. Now, who's ready to crank up some "Enter Sandman"?
