How Old Was Chevy Chase When He Made Christmas Vacation

Chevy Chase: The Original Griswold - How Old Was He in 'Christmas Vacation'?

Alright, gather 'round, folks. I've got a tale to tell about a certain someone who brought us the gift of laughter and the curse of tangled Christmas lights. You know him as Clark Griswold, but in the real world, he's Chevy Chase. Now, buckle up, because we're about to dive into the time machine and find out just how old Chevy was when he made 'Christmas Vacation'.

First things first, let's set the scene. It's 1989, the hair is big, the shoulders are pads, and 'Christmas Vacation' is about to hit our screens. Now, you might think, 'Well, that's a Christmas classic. It must be ancient by now!' But hold onto your elf hats, because this movie is younger than you think. In fact, it's younger than some of the Christmas sweaters you've got hanging in your closet.

So, let's rewind to 1989. Chevy Chase, our favorite vacationing patriarch, was a sprightly 45 years old. That's right, folks! Clark Griswold was a silver fox before he even started planning that ill-fated family road trip. Now, I know what you're thinking, 'But, but... Clark looks like he's been through the wringer! His hair is thinning, his belly's a-bulgin', and he's got more wrinkles than a raisin!' Well, my friends, that's the magic of cinema. It's like they say, 'Age is just a number, unless you're a tree, then it's your height.'

Now, you might be wondering how Chevy managed to pull off playing a character who's supposed to be older than him. Well, it's all about the acting, folks. Chevy's a pro at playing the bumbling, lovable dad. He's like the real-life version of that inflatable tube man you see outside car dealerships - always flailing around, always entertaining.

But let's not forget, Chevy wasn't always the seasoned comedian we know and love. He started his career back in the '70s, on that little show called 'Saturday Night Live'. You might have heard of it. He was the original Weekend Update anchor, and he even hosted the show more times than I've had hot meals (which, let me tell you, is a lot).

So, when it came to 'Christmas Vacation', Chevy was already a comedy veteran. He'd played Clark Griswold in two other movies by then, and he knew just how to make that character come to life. It's like he was born to play the part of a man who's constantly one step away from a nervous breakdown, but always manages to keep his family laughing.

Age is Just a Number, Folks

Now, you might be thinking, 'Okay, so Chevy was 45 when he made 'Christmas Vacation'. But how old is he now?' Well, folks, Chevy's still kicking around, and he's looking better than ever. As of 2021, he's a sprightly 77 years young. That's right, he's older than some of the trees in your backyard, and he's still making us laugh.

So, the next time you're watching 'Christmas Vacation', remember that Clark Griswold was actually a silver fox playing a slightly older version of himself. And remember, folks, age is just a number. It's how you carry yourself that counts. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some tangled Christmas lights to untangle. Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal!
