Born to Perform

Shirley was born on January 8, 1937, in Tiger Bay, Cardiff, Wales. Her parents, Henry and Eliza Bassey, had moved to the UK from Nigeria. Young Shirley grew up in a bustling, multicultural neighborhood, and her love for music blossomed early. She started performing in local clubs at just 16, and the rest, as they say, is history!

But wait, you're probably thinking, "That's all well and good, but how old is she now?" Well, my friends, as of 2023, Shirley Bassey is a sprightly 86 years young!

Bond, James Bond

You might recognize Shirley's powerful vocals from her iconic theme songs for the James Bond films "Goldfinger," "Diamonds Are Forever," and "Moonraker." She's the only artist to have sung the theme for three Bond films, and her sultry, commanding voice has become synonymous with the suave secret agent.
