Age is Just a Number: A Chat with Nik Kershaw
Ever found yourself humming "The Riddle" or "Wouldn't It Be Good" while doing the dishes? You're not alone. Nik Kershaw, the British singer-songwriter behind these '80s hits, has been making us groove and reminisce for decades. But just how old is this musical maestro? Let's dive in.
Born in the Swinging '60s
Nik was born on March 1, 1958, in Bristol, England. That makes him a Pisces, if you're into astrology. Growing up in the '60s and '70s, he was surrounded by the sounds of The Beatles, David Bowie, and Elton John. No wonder he picked up a guitar at 15 and started penning his own tunes.
From Busker to Billboard
After studying graphic design, Nik hit the streets of London, busking to make ends meet. His big break came in 1983 when his demo tape landed in the right hands. His debut album, "Human Racing," was released the following year, featuring hits like "I Won't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" and "Dancing Girls."

Age Doesn't Stop the Music
Nik's career spans over four decades, with hits like "Don Quixote" in the '90s and "15 Minutes" in the 2000s. He's also been busy behind the scenes, writing and producing for other artists. Nik's secret to staying relevant? "Keep evolving," he says. "Don't be afraid to try new things, even if they're not 'you' anymore." Wise words from a man who's seen the music industry change drastically since his debut.
Nik Kershaw Today
Today, Nik is a proud grandfather, a fact he's not shy to share on his social media. He's also been keeping busy with his podcast, "The Nik Kershaw Podcast," where he chats with fellow musicians about their careers and influences. And yes, he's still making music. His latest album, "Oxymoron," was released in 2020.
