Growing Up in the Game

LL Cool J, or "Ladies Love Cool James" as he was known back in the day, grew up in the projects of Queens, New York. He started rapping at the age of 9, and by the time he was 16, he had already signed a record deal with Def Jam Recordings. Talk about starting young!

His debut album, "Radio," dropped in 1985 when he was just 17. It was an instant hit, and LL Cool J became one of the first hip-hop artists to achieve mainstream success. From there, it was smooth sailing (well, mostly) for this young rapper.
