Born to Rock

John Cameron Fogerty, born on May 28, 1945, in Berkeley, California, was practically born with a guitar in his hands. His love for music started early, with influences ranging from Chuck Berry to Lightnin' Hopkins. By the time he was a teenager, Fogerty had formed his first band, The Blue Velvets, with his brother Tom.

Creedence Clearwater Revival

In 1967, Fogerty and his brother, along with Stu Cook and Doug Clifford, formed Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR). The band's swamp rock sound, characterized by Fogerty's distinctive voice and guitar playing, quickly gained popularity. CCR's hits like "Bad Moon Rising" and "Green River" became anthems of the late '60s and early '70s.

Fogerty's songwriting prowess was evident in CCR's music. He wrote or co-wrote all of the band's hit singles. His lyrics, often inspired by his love for the American South and its culture, resonated with audiences worldwide. CCR's music continues to influence bands today, from The Black Crowes to The Black Keys.

Solo Career and Beyond

After CCR disbanded in 1972, Fogerty embarked on a successful solo career. His 1985 album "Centerfield" featured the hit single "The Old Man Down the Road," which became a staple at baseball games. Fogerty's solo work continued to showcase his signature sound and storytelling lyrics.
