How Old Is Jd Vance

Ever wondered about the age of J.D. Vance, the guy who wrote that memoir everyone's been talking about, "Hillbilly Elegy"? Let's dive in, shall we?

Born in '84, Raised in Appalachia

J.D. Vance, full name Jonathan Dwight Vance Jr., was born on August 1, 1984, in the heart of Appalachia, in the small town of Jackson, Kentucky. That makes him a Leo, by the way, if you're into astrology. He's a millennial, but barely - he's right on the cusp of Generation X.

Now, you might be thinking, "How did a kid from Kentucky end up in the Ivy League and then on the bestseller list?" Well, that's a story for another time. Let's stick to the age thing for now.

From Kentucky to Yale

Vance's family moved around a bit when he was a kid, but he spent most of his formative years in Middletown, Ohio. He graduated from high school in 2003, which makes him a high school graduate in the same year as the original iPod was released. Talk about a throwback!

After high school, Vance joined the Marine Corps, serving from 2003 to 2007. He was deployed to Iraq in 2004, which was around the same time the first Harry Potter movie hit theaters. Imagine that - fighting in a war while kids back home were watching magic on the big screen.

After his service, Vance went to Ohio State University, then to Yale Law School. He graduated from Yale in 2013, the same year Kim Kardashian broke the internet. Coincidence? We think not.

Hillbilly Elegy and Beyond

Vance's memoir, "Hillbilly Elegy," was published in 2016 when he was 32 years old. That's a pretty impressive feat, considering most of us were still trying to figure out our careers at that age. The book was a massive success, spending weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and even getting a HBO movie adaptation in 2020.
