Growing Up in Post-War Britain

Ian grew up in the post-war era, in a small town called Bolton, in the north of England. I mean, can you imagine? He was probably playing in the streets with sticks as swords, little knowing he'd one day play a real-life sorcerer.

He studied at Cambridge, where he was part of the famous Cambridge Footlights, a comedy group that's spawned some serious talent. I mean, Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson were part of it too. Talk about a powerhouse of British comedy!
