How Old Is Gaming With Kev

Hey there, gaming enthusiasts and curious minds! Ever wondered, "How old is this gaming thing we all love?" Let's dive in, shall we?

Back in the Day

Picture this: it's the 1940s, and a bunch of clever folks are tinkering with something called cathode ray tubes. They're not making TVs, though. No, they're cooking up something way more fun - the first video games!

One of these brainy types, Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr., patented a game called "Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device" in 1947. It was basically a light gun game, like Duck Hunt, but without the duck. Pretty neat for the 40s, huh?

Pong-ing into the 70s

Fast forward to the 70s, and we've got Pong hitting the arcades. You know, that simple yet addictive game where you bat a ball back and forth. It was like the first big gaming party, and everyone was invited!

Pong was so popular, it even made its way into homes. In 1975, Atari released the Home Pong console. It was like having a tiny arcade in your living room. Sweet!

Leaping into the 8-bit Era

Now, we're in the 80s, and gaming's gone handheld. The Game Boy and Tetris are all the rage. You can now play games on the go, like a sneaky secret agent. Awesome, right?

Meanwhile, our home consoles are getting a power-up. We've got the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and the Sega Genesis battling it out. It's like the gaming equivalent of the Cold War, but way more fun.

Into the 3D World

Next stop, the 90s! We're going 3D, baby. The PlayStation and Nintendo 64 are here, and they're bringing Super Mario 64 and Tomb Raider with them. Mind. Blown.

And let's not forget the rise of PC gaming. With the internet booming, online multiplayer games like Quake and Unreal Tournament are taking over. It's like we're all part of one big, global gaming community. Neat!

Now, we're in the 2000s and beyond. Consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are pushing graphics to the max. We've got Fortnite and Among Us bringing people together online. And let's not forget mobile gaming - now everyone's a gamer, anytime, anywhere!

So, how old is gaming? Well, it's been around for over 70 years, and it's only getting bigger and better. It's like our favorite hobby's grown up with us, evolving into something amazing. Isn't that cool?

Next time you boot up your favorite game, remember, you're part of something that's been around for decades. Pretty neat, huh? Now, let's get gaming!
