Age Is Just a Number: Emmett's Journey in The Chi

Ever found yourself binge-watching The Chi, only to pause and wonder, "How old is Emmett Wright, anyway?" We've all been there. Showtime's gritty drama, set in the South Side of Chicago, keeps us hooked with its compelling storytelling and relatable characters. Today, we're diving into the timeline of one of its standout figures, Emmett Wright, played by the talented Jacob Latimore.

Emmett's Backstory

Emmett's story begins in the first season of The Chi, premiering in 2018. The show, created by Lena Waithe and produced by Common, explores the lives of residents in the South Side neighborhood, with Emmett's journey serving as a central thread. But how old is Emmett when we first meet him?

In the pilot episode, Emmett is introduced as a 16-year-old high school student navigating the challenges of growing up in the inner city. His age is established early on, with his birthday being celebrated in the first few episodes. So, when the show first aired, Jacob Latimore, who was 22 at the time, was playing a character four years his junior.

Emmett's Growth

Over the course of the series, Emmett's character evolves significantly. From a bright and ambitious teenager, he transforms into a young man grappling with the harsh realities of his environment. As the show progresses, so does Emmett's age. By the end of season four, which aired in 2021, Emmett is around 20 years old.

Jacob Latimore, on the other hand, has been steadily aging in real life. As of 2022, he's 26, making him six years older than Emmett's current on-screen age. This age gap has allowed Latimore to bring a depth of understanding and maturity to his portrayal of Emmett, despite the character being younger.
