How Old Is Athena In 911

Ever wondered about the age of Athena, the iconic goddess from Greek mythology? You might be thinking, "How can we even talk about her age? She's a mythical figure, right?" Well, buckle up, because we're about to dive into a fascinating journey through time and myth, all thanks to a pop culture reference: the 9/11 event.

Setting the Stage: The Trojan War

Let's rewind to the Trojan War, a legendary conflict that took place around the 13th or 12th century BCE. Athena, the goddess of wisdom and strategic warfare, was right there in the thick of it, supporting the Greeks. Now, here's where it gets interesting. In the epic poem "The Iliad," Athena is described as being "equal to her father Zeus in strength and wisdom."

Enter the Oracle

Fast forward to the 8th century BCE. We meet the Oracle of Delphi, who's got some serious wisdom to share. She drops a bombshell, claiming that Athena was born fully grown and armored, springing from her father Zeus' forehead. Whoa, talk about a dramatic entrance!

So, if Athena was born fully grown, that means she's been around for a while, right? But how old is she exactly? This is where things get a bit tricky. Greek mythology isn't always the most reliable when it comes to dates and ages. It's more like a big, epic story where timelines can get a bit... flexible.

9/11 and the Linear B Connection

Now, let's bring it back to 9/11. No, we're not talking about the tragic events of 2001. We're talking about the Linear B script, an ancient writing system used by the Mycenaeans around 1400-1200 BCE. You might be wondering, "What does this have to do with Athena's age?" Well, stick with me, it's gonna get cool.

The Linear B tablets were discovered in the Palace of Nestor at Pylos, which, if you remember your "Iliad," is where Nestor, the wise old king, lived. These tablets are like ancient Greek tweets, giving us a glimpse into everyday life. And guess who makes an appearance? Athena! One of the tablets mentions a "potnia" (which means 'mistress' or 'lady'), often associated with Athena.

So, if we're talking about Athena's age in relation to the Linear B tablets, we're looking at around 3200 years old. That's like being a senior citizen in ancient Greek terms. But remember, this is a rough estimate, and mythological timelines can be as slippery as a Greek olive.

Why Does It Matter?

You might be thinking, "Okay, cool story, but why does Athena's age even matter?" Well, it's all about perspective. When we talk about Athena's age, we're not just talking about a number. We're talking about the passage of time, the evolution of cultures, and the enduring power of myth.

Think about it. Athena's been around for thousands of years, watching civilizations rise and fall, empires come and go. She's like the ultimate witness to history, a constant presence in a world that's constantly changing. Isn't that something worth pondering?

So, the next time you see Athena in a painting or a movie, remember, she's been around for a while. She's seen things, man. She's seen things.
