How Old Is Ariel

So, you've been wondering, "How old is Ariel, the little mermaid?" I mean, we've all sung "Part of Your World" at the top of our lungs in the shower, right? Let's dive in and find out!

Under the Sea of Confusion

First things first, Ariel's age isn't explicitly stated in the original Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. But when Disney got their hands on it, they added some details. In the 1989 animated film, Ariel is 16. But wait, there's more!

Now, let's talk about the live-action remake. In "The Little Mermaid" (2023), Ariel is still 16. But here's where it gets interesting. The director, Rob Marshall, mentioned that Ariel is "younger than she's ever been." So, is she 15? 14? We'll never know, but it's fun to speculate!

Age is Just a Number, Right?

You might be thinking, "Who cares about Ariel's age? She's a mermaid!" And you're right. But hear me out. In human years, 16 is pretty young. But remember, Ariel's not human. She's a mermaid princess with magical powers. So, who knows how her aging process works?

Plus, think about it. In the original tale, Ariel makes a deal with the sea witch to become human. If she can't kiss Prince Eric within three days, she'll belong to the witch forever. That's some serious pressure for a teenager!

Growing Up is Hard to Do

Now, let's talk about growth. Ariel might be young, but she's not immature. She's curious, adventurous, and determined. She collects human artifacts, dreams of becoming human, and even defies her father, King Triton, to pursue her dreams.
